WOMEN WHO CAN CHANGE THE WORLD
Today, many talented students are unable to attend university without financial support. Bursaries help ensure deserving students from diverse backgrounds have the opportunity to learn and excel. It provides the promise of a bright and prosperous future for our community and Canada.
Breakfast for Bursaries was created to make attendance at Brescia University College possible for mature women from the local area. Last year, the event sold out with over 500 guests in attendance. Proceeds from Breakfast for Bursaries support an endowment fund, in honour of 1939 Brescia graduate, Eleanore Donnelly.
Brescia’s seventh annual Breakfast for Bursaries will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at the London Convention Centre. We are delighted to inform you that this year’s guest speaker is one of Canada’s best known and most respected broadcast journalists, Wendy Mesley.

Volunteer Mentors for Professional Immigrants The Mentoring Partnership is a collaboration of 10 community and 50 corporate partners that bring together skilled immigrants and established professionals in occupation-specific mentoring relationships. It is delivered by a coalition of partner organizations in the City of Toronto and the regions of Halton, Peel and York. Since 2005, the program has achieved 70% employment success rate and 2300 matches in GTA. The program also provides great opportunities for personal and professional development for mentors and mentees.
Volunteer mentors make a significant impact and difference in the life of newcomers, our community and Canada as a whole. We need more working immigrants to help sustain Canada’s economic activity and standard of living. According to the study of RBC in 2005, Canada will need an additional 2.75 million workers in the next 20 years over and above Statistics Canada’s long-term population projections and assumptions on fertility, mortality, aging labour population and net immigration rates. It also states that if immigrant workers were as successful in the Canadian workforce as those born in the country, personal incomes would be about $13 billion higher each year than at present. Lastly, help save CAD$3.4 - 4.9 billion per annum, the amount costing the economy on issues of unemployment and/or underemployment of skilled immigrants (Conference Board of Canada).
We need volunteer mentors for professional immigrants for 24 hours in 4 months in the areas of Information Technology, Engineering, Pharmaceuticals, etc.

How can Canada expand its leadership capacity to become a leading nation and a nation of leaders? Made in Canada Leadership found the answers through an extensive research featuring 361 leaders and professionals from across the country, including a number of WXN Hall of Fame inductees www.leadership-canada.com.
To ensure an abundant supply of capable leaders now and in the future, Canada must generate a critical mass of leaders. This means aligning leadership development efforts in a strategic, long term and proactive approach through the creation of a National Leadership Strategy comprised of three cornerstones:
- Practical leadership education at all levels
- Widespread access to mentoring for children and adults
- The inception of a National Leadership Institute.
The authors are now putting in place steps to move towards a National Leadership Strategy. If you or your organization, are interested in participating in this initiative, contact the authors at info@leadership-canada.com |
